Art Show to Take Place This Weekend FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDowntown Paragould has become an attraction for entertainment, eclecticism and even culture. This weekend, one downtown event will provide patrons with a dose of all three. The Spring Art Show Reception, scheduled for April 19-20 at Connie’s Art Gallery, will showcase works by 20 local and nationally known artists. Artistic styles to be displayed vary from traditional “high art” to the more modern and abstract. Two featured artists representing each end of this spectrum are Thelma Davenport and the late Joyce Craft. Davenport, whose ink-based paintings focus on energy as opposed to animate objects, offers onlookers an interesting find. Each abstract piece is accompanied by the artist’s interpretation—usually two. “People often provide their own unique interpretations, and they usually see some really interesting things in my paintings,” says Davenport. Representing the more traditional side of things are the pastel and charcoal works of the late Joyce Craft. Craft, whose art has been well received worldwide, has had displays at the Detroit Institute of Art as well as in Edinburgh, Scotland. She resided in the Northeast Arkansas area during the 1990s. Planned festivities for the show include live violin music and refreshments. There is no admission fee and everyone is welcome. The Spring Art Show Reception will take place Friday, April 19, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 20, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Connie’s Art Gallery is located at 221 N. Pruett St. in downtown Paragould. For more information, please call 215-0800 or 239-4166. #30 |
